Schema Therapy: Glasgow and remote
What Is Schema Therapy?
Schema therapy is an integrative approach that targets ‘schemas’. Schemas are theorised to develop during childhood when emotional and physical needs aren’t met, when overindulged, or when boundaries are not upheld. The word schema refers to maladaptive thought patterns that can cause people to engage in unhealthy behaviour. These can include avoidant, anxious, and self-sacrificing behaviours. These can lead to many challenges, such as upholding relationships, making social connections, and balancing different aspects of life. This therapy modality can also be helpful for those struggling with addiction and can help prevent relapse.
Schema therapy combines elements of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychoanalysis, and Gestalt therapy to help people identify their behaviours. Through this modality you can understand which schemas affect you most, find their roots, and learn how to change. This will be through assessments with your therapist and ongoing assignments to help you face your negative beliefs.
