ADHD Assessments at Psyche Therapy Centre

We offer remote ADHD Assessments with highly qualified practitioners to help you better understand yourself, your behaviours, and the support that could benefit you:

What Is Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition impacting people’s behaviour especially around concentration and hyperactivity. This condition is often misunderstood as only being present in children and/or men which means many people go undiagnosed even though ADHD can affect women, adults, and children.

The presentations of ADHD vary between each individual and between different demographics, i.e., men, women, children. The general traits of ADHD are as follows and these must be long-term, present in two or more settings, have a significant impact, and not be better explained by another mental health condition:

Concentration issues: a person with ADHD may struggle to pay attention across their work and their social life, to follow instructions, and may be easily distracted
Forgetfulness: they may struggle with remembering items they need for everyday life, remembering appointments and other commitments, and forget to follow through on tasks.
Restlessness and hyperactivity: they may feel the need to regularly fidget, squirm and move around, feel unable to fully relax and/or be constantly ‘on the go’, talk quickly and excessively with issues with waiting their turn in conversation or in general.

What is an ADHD Assessment? :

An ADHD assessment is an in-depth evaluation used to identify whether someone meets the diagnostic criteria of Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder. At Psyche Therapy Centre, our assessments are conducted by experienced clinicians with specialist understanding of ADHD and the different ways it can present in adults and children, men and women etc. We aim to give you a deeper insight into yourself so you can access support and better move forward with your life.

What happens in an ADHD Assessment? :

• You will be asked some questions with one of our consultants about yourself, your life/experiences, and your medical history. We will also ask about any symptoms and relevant family history.
• You will need to complete some forms measuring your symptoms and their progression over time. There are no right or wrong answers to these. They will help provide some background about your experiences.
• Our consultants will observe your behaviour and actions during the assessment to help identify whether this fits with the diagnostic criteria of ADHD

Who do we provide ADHD Assessments to?

We can provide ADHD assessments to both adults and children who:

• Think they have ADHD and that they meet the diagnostic criteria but have never been diagnosed.
• Individuals looking to explore and understand the way they think and behave
• People who have been suggested to have ADHD due to family connections and/or the insight of others

The benefits of an ADHD Assessment

Self-Understanding and Compassion: An ADHD Assessment can allow you to understand patterns in your thoughts and behaviours and from this a better understanding of yourself. When we understand ourselves better and the reasons behind how we think and behave, it makes it easier to demonstrate self-compassion.
Targeted support: Having an ADHD assessment means the people in your life will have a better idea of how to help you with what you are dealing with and you will be able to access more focused resources and support moving forward, including medication, therapy, and support networks.
Improve daily functioning and relationships: ADHD can present a lot of challenges that can affect you across work, studies, social life, relationships and other areas. An assessment can help develop coping skills to improve your functioning.
